A standard steel girder bridge, the Canal Flats Bridge is about 425 feet in length, standing on three pairs of round concrete piers in the river and concrete abutments each end. Strength is given to the bridge by a pair of deep steel girders, the individual sections bolted together. Though the Kootenay River rises a very short distance north of this bridge it already carries a fair volume of water.

The date of construction (1965) is imprinted in the small wing walls outside the two right hand end posts on each end of the bridge.
