The plaque is located on a brick built marker between platform 2 and 3 at Kidsgrove Station.
A plaque above it reads as follows;
'Landscaping of this station carried out by
Staffordshire County Council
Community Programme Agency
on behalf of the British Railways Board
as part of the
Manpower Services Commission Community Programme
Completed July 1886.'
The garden has a paved bank with the words Kidsgrove Staffordshire 1985 in white lettering facing platform 1.
The garden area had become overgrown and neglected over the years and has been transformed by a group of volunteers.
"Expert gardener Allan Dale, 73, came forward to help out at Kidsgrove station in response to a recruitment drive by the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership for station volunteers to assist with improving their local station.
That was two years ago; since then, Allan has led the way, taking other volunteers under his wing to transform the once overgrown station garden and platform beds.
His enterprise has won the assistance of other key organisations including Kidsgrove Rotary Club and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and won donations of plants, bulbs and funds to maintain the transformation." Source: (

A small square Rotary International Sign 'Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kidsgrove 2012' can also be seen in the corner of the garden.
"The Royal Horticultural Society has handed a prestigious award to a train station brightened up by volunteers with the creation of colourful new gardens. The spectacular efforts of the helpers have even been credited with helping to double the number of people using Kidsgrove station in Staffordshire." Source: (
