This water tower is situated on the northern edge of Templeton Woods in the extreme north-west of the city, less than half a mile from the border with the county of Angus.
It stands on top of Gallow Hill, a low summit of 573 feet, but geographically the highest point of the city.
There is no official name for it, although it has been referred to as Clatto Water Tower, after the nearby country park and reservoir, and also Templeton Woods Water Tower.
The drum-like tower is not particularly tall, but is quite wide and provides water for much of Dundee and parts of Perthshire.
The tower can be reached from various paths, but most easily from Templeton Woods visitors car park around half a mile to the west, where a good track heads directly to it through the woods. The tower is circled by a security fence and can only be viewed from outside of this.
