At one time a library that has now moved to a nearby building, Bingham House is now both a gallery and also the home of the Cirencester Town Council. Organisations like the Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Forum also make use of meeting rooms.
Text of the plaque:-
Daniel George Bingham (1830-1913) was born in Black Jack Street and began his career with the Great Western Railway Company at the town's station before moving to Utrecht where he helped to reorganise the Dutch railway network. In 1905 he used his personal wealth as a benefactor to build and endow the Bingham Library, a 'Noble Gift' to hisnative town. The library moved to new premises in 1975 since when the building has continued to be owned and managed as a public resource by the Bingham Library Trust.
