EN:
The "Drachenfelsbahn" is the oldest active cogwheel railway in Germany. The rack railway was put into operation in the summer of 1883. Since then, it is a tourist attraction at the foot of the legendary Drachenfels in Königswinter on the Rhine. The Drachenfels is regarded as the "summit of the romantic Rhine valley" and as the most abundant mountain in Europe. At the beginning the Drachenfelsbahn was pulled by steam locomotives, later they were replaced by electric traction units.

The line runs from Königswinter to the summit of the Drachenfels mountain at an altitude of 289 m (948 ft). Besides the two terminal stations, an intermediate station serves the Schloss Drachenburg. On its way to the top, it manages an elevation gain of approx. 220 metres with inclines of up to 20 %.
