Whitmire is a town in Newberry County, South Carolina, along the Enoree River. The population was 1,443 as of 2013. The town was founded by George Fredrick Whitmire who came from Germany. It is a textile town. The water tower is on a high hill in town to assist with water pressure. The tower provides water storage and pressure of human consumption, industrial use, and fire protection.
