La cathédrale de Strasbourg héberge une horloge astronomique. Différents mécanismes, automates, globes et cadrans permettent de connaître le temps vrai, le temps moyen, le jour, le mois, l’année, le signe du zodiaque, la phase lunaire et la position des planètes jusqu'à Saturne, les équinoxes, le comput écclesiastique et plein d'autres éléments scientifiques

C'est au premier étage de la tour centrale que l'on trouve un planétaire construit d'après le système de Copernic. Celui-ci montre avec une précision mathématique la marche des planètes autour du soleil, à savoir : Mercure, Vénus, la Terre avec la Lune, Mars, Jupiter et Saturne.
Sur la circonférence du planétaire sont marqués les signes du zodiaque.
