A multi-million dollar WDOT project was vote-approved in 2010 to replace and update miscellaneous roads and bridges. One of these projects was the NE 45th Street Viaduct. Originally built in 1938, most of the viaduct was replaced or rehabilitated. Project crews have kept the original 1938 railing on the south side of the viaduct. The year '2010' has been stamped on the SW and NE corners of the viaduct.
