[E] Mirabeau Park was built after the removal of the Saint-Jean-des-Coups cemetery, which was closed following the 1856 flood (the graves were not moved until 1889). This cemetery, also called the eastern cemetery, had itself been laid out in 1777 in the gardens of an old priory. From this cemetery stands an alley of chestnut trees leading to the chapel. In 1891, it was reorganized by Louis Ernest Madelin, chief gardener of the botanical garden. Its northern part was amputated in 1957 for the extension of the neighboring school which I will speak to you for its plate commemorating the deportation of Jewish pupils. Today it has an area of ??less than 1ha.
The kiosk, constructed of concrete imitating wood, a very fashionable technique at that time (you can see, for example, in the same style the installations of the English garden in the park of Blossac in Poitiers), date of this redevelopment and was built In the place of an old chapel of the 12th century, vestige of the priory preserved during the development of the cemetery.
