The most easterly campground in the US,
Sunset Point Campground may have been named for views such as that pictured here. From this point one will not find another campground to the east without leaving the country. This campground is not to be confused with
Sunset Point RV Park, well to the west and south in Harrington, ME.
This little campground, on the western outskirts of Lubec, is right on the waterfront of Johnson Bay, an inlet at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy. The campground offers:
• 30 electric & water sites, 15 with cable TV
• 8 tent sites (6 primitive, 2 with water & electric)
• Washers & dryers
• Free Wi-Fi
• Clean restrooms with free showers
• Dump station and mobile sewer service
• Firewood, ice and snacks
Rates range from $30 per night for a tent site to $2,800 for an RV site with Water, 30 amp Electric & Cable TV for the entire season (five months).
They offer free use of pots, burners and propane to cook and enjoy local lobsters, freshly caught crabs and steamed clams dug from the shore. Here one may launch their kayak or canoe from the boat ramp, gather around a warm fire, observe frequent sightings of bald eagles, follow the fog as it floats into Johnson Bay or spend an afternoon gathering sea glass at low tide. Each site has a picnic table and a fire pit while at the waterfront is a pavilion over another picnic table. We weren't equipped for camping when we passed through or we would have stayed here. This is a nice, well maintained campground in a very quiet area, quite a bucolic seaside setting.
