""L'espoir", la statue érigée sur la jetée rive gauche était le thème de la conférence qu'a donnée, vendredi 19 février, le sculpteur Nella Buscot qui l'a réalisée.

Le public, réuni dans le salon de musique Roger-Albanèse qui, pour la circonstance, affichait complet, a suivi avec attention l'historique de cette œuvre monumentale. Christian Jeanjean, le maire, a fait part de son projet à l'artiste en 2008. L'idée était d'évoquer la terre d'accueil que fut toujours la ville qui, pendant la dernière guerre, a reçu des réfugiés belges, hébergé de nombreux enfants juifs, puis, plus tard en 1999, a ouvert ses portes aux réfugiés kosovars.
Nella Buscot a passionné son auditoire en commentant les phases successives de la réalisation de "L'Espoir", depuis la sculpture en terre de l'original de l'œuvre (un peu moins d'un mètre de haut), son agrandissement en polyuréthane et la fabrication d'un moule jusqu'à son coulage en bronze. Elle a détaillé l'immense travail qu'ont constitué le remodelage, la finition et l'assemblage des différents éléments de la statue."
