The sign is situated on the left-hand side of the road when travelling from Ramsey.
The sign is has black and red lettering. On this sign the welcome is first in Manx Gaelic followed by the English translation.
At the top of the sign is a picture of The Great Laxey Wheel 'Lady Isabella' Below the picture in a smaller font than on the remainder of the sign 'Barrantee Laksaa' and 'Laxey Village Commissioners'
At the base of the sign is the information that Laxey is "In the Sheading of Garff".
The Isle of Man is divided into 6 Sheadings of which Garff is one. The Sheadings in modern times are only significant as the districts for Conroners and as the basis for certain electoral constituencies.
However, on 1st May 2016 the new authority of 'Garff Parish District' came into being. Previously the Sheading of Garff had three local authorities, Laxey, Lonan and Maughold. The first meeting of the Garff Parish District Commissioners was held on 4th May 2016.
