Le pont à double niveaux avait été imaginé par Léonard de Vinci après la peste qui avait fait de nombreuses victimes en Italie.
Selon lui, une meilleure circulation pourrait améliorer l’état sanitaire des villes.
Il invente donc ce pont avec deux voies de passage séparées. La passage du dessous est donc couvert par le passage du dessus.
