The information sign, on the brick wall behind the anchor, at S28° 38.062' E153° 35.956', states:
"This anchor is from the T.S.S. Wollongbar which was wrecked on May 14th, 1921 after being washed onto a sand-bar when the captain tried unsuccessfully to put to sea from the Old 1888 Town Jetty during a strong easterly gale."
"The remains of the Wreck are still visible offshore from Main Beach near the First Sun Caravan Park."

"Wollongbar was a 2,005-ton passenger steamship built by the Ailsa Shipbuilding Company, Troon in 1911 for the North Coast Steam Navigation Company."

The Wollongbar was built on the west coast of Scotland, by the Ailsa Shipbuilding company in yard 229, at Troon, and at the time of the wreck was owned by the North Coast Steam Navigation Company. It was 86.9 metres (285.2 ft) long, had a Beam of 12.3 metres (40.2 ft), and had a Draught of 7.3 metres (23.8 ft).
It was powered by a 'Triple-expansion' steam engine, which enabled it to run at 20 knots (37 km/hr, or 23 mph). [Wiki]
