DE: In der Gegend um Morro Jable lebten in den 1960ger Jahren aufgrund einer wirtschaftlichen Flaute nur noch rund 200 Einwohner, die meisten von ihnen waren Fischer und Ziegenhirten.
Heute noch wird in Morro Jable kommerziell Fischfang betrieben, jedoch ist es nicht mehr der Haupterwerbszweig der Einwohner.
Der Hafen von Morro Jable
Der Hafen von Morro Jable befindet sich etwas außerhalb des Stadtkerns, ganz im Osten, direkt neben dem Gewerbegebiet. Hier legen neben den Auto- und Personenfähren, die die Stadt mit den Inseln Gran Canaria und Teneriffa verbindet, auch Yachten, Ausflugsboote und vor allem Fischerboote an. Vor allem in den späten Mittagsstunden kann man hier hektisches Treiben beobachten, wenn die Fischer von ihren Touren zurückkommen und bestrebt sind, ihre Ware so schnell wie möglich in die anliegenden Kühlhallen zu transportieren, um den Fisch frisch weiterverarbeiten lassen zu können.

The port of Morro Jable
The port of Morro Jable is located just outside the town center, just to the east, next to the commercial area. In addition to the car and passenger ferries that connect the city with the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife, there are also yachts, excursion boats and, above all, fishing boats. Especially in the late noon hours one can observe here a hectic activity, when the fishermen return from their tours and strive to transport their goods as fast as possible into the adjacent cooling halls, in order to be able to leave the fish freshly processed further.
