The Royal Hotel was built circa 1870 & continues to serve a cold beer & offer pub grub to this day. There are a great many pubs in Australia named Royal in honour of our Queens - Victoria & Elizabeth.
Cassilis is off the beaten track but well worth the few minutes it takes to drive to. The pub has several beers on tap & a fine collection of spirits but I chose a can of lemon which was served in a heavy glass brimming with ice. Nothing better on a hot day when travelling.
The publicans offer lunch between 12 & 3 & dinner between 6 & 8:30. The special on the day was that quintessential Australian favourite - snags with tomato & onion gravy & mash. There is a happy hour Monday to Friday with schooners only $5. Friday nights there is 'Spin the Wheel' with free schooners, a carton of beer & Royal merchandise such as stubby holders, polos.
You can play a game of darts or pool in the games room or watch the footy on TV.
