There is an information point an a look out at Mirador astronomico.
The island was nominated in 1971 and declared in 2009. Not only animals and plants are investigated, also the use and customs of man who previously lived in it. Importent are renewable energy. Here in Fuerteventura are several wind farms like this one in Costa Calma. In the past wind was used in windmills.
"The Fuerteventura Biosphere Reserve is located on the oldest and second largest of the Canary Islands. The western coastline stretches over 100 kilometres and is free of human intervention. Unlike the other Canary Islands, the topography of Fuerteventura is characterized by U-shaped valleys and low mountains. The highest peak is Pico de la Zarza (807 metres) located in the south of the reserve. The island also contains a rich fossil record, distributed among 50 paleontological sites of global importance."
