Einzigartige Einblicke in die vulkanische Vergangenheit am Eppelsberg, Vulkanismus live am Laacher See mit Blick auf das Kloster Maria Laach, grandiose Ausblicke auf den Krufter Waldsee und herrliche Aussichten in die Pellenz.
Die Tour beginnt am Parkplatz beim römischen Tumulus in Nickenich. Der Weg umrundet zunächst ein idyllisches Tal, bevor ein kurzer Anstieg vor der eindrucksvollen Aschewand (Schwarzen Wand), die der Laacher-See-Vulkan vor 13.000 Jahren hinterlassen hat, vorbeiführt. Der Standort beeindruckt ebenso durch einen weiträumigen Blick auf Nickenich.
Nach kurzem Aufstieg lohnt ein Abstecher zur Rast an der Hermann-Hütte mit großartigem Panoramablick. Anschließend geht der Weg leicht abwärts und führt an den Rand des Tagebaus am Eppelsberg. Nach einer Passage durch einen Mischwald gelangt man zum Rastplatz beim Krufter Waldsee. Der Gipfelsturm beginnt auf mäßig ansteigenden Waldwegen, doch kurz vor dem Fels geht es steil hinauf, entlang einer eindrucksvollen Felsnische, zum Felsvorsprung Teufelskanzel mit sagenhaftem Fernblick Richtung Kruft und Neuwieder Becken. Ein bequemer Höhenweg führt zur Schutzhütte „Am Krufter Ofen“, dann geht es in Serpentinen abwärts durch einen mächtigen Buchenwald. Über freies Feld führt der Weg zum Laacher See und gibt erste Blicke auf das Kloster Maria Laach frei.
Am nahen Ufer entlang lohnt sich ein Abstecher zum Seeufer, um die so genannten Moffetten zu bestaunen. Alsbald biegt der Pfad rechts ab und steigt steil empor. Anschließend führen bequeme Forstwege und die Überquerung der L 116 zunächst durch einen Mischwald bis zum Keltischen Baumkreis. Der letzte Streckenabschnitt ist geprägt von wiederkehrenden grandiosen Ausblicken zum Siebengebirge und in die Pellenz. Entlang des Waldrands geht es in einem Bogen um den Sportplatz zurück zum römischen Grabmal."

Unique insights into the volcanic past at the Eppelsberg, volcanoism live at Laacher See with a view of the Maria Laach Monastery, magnificent views of the Krufter Waldsee and magnificent views of the Pellenz.
The tour begins at the parking lot near the Roman Tumulus in Nickenich. The trail first encircles an idyllic valley before a short climb before the impressive ash wall (Black Wall) that the Laacher See volcano has left 13,000 years ago. The location also impresses with a wide-ranging view of Nickenich.
After a short ascent, a detour to the rest of the Hermann-Hütte with a great panorama view is worthwhile. Then the path goes slightly downhill and leads to the edge of the opencast mine at the Eppelsberg. After a passage through a mixed forest you reach the resting place at the Krufter Waldsee. The summit storm begins on moderately rising forest paths, but shortly before the rock it rises steeply, along an impressive rock niche, to the rock formation Teufelskanzel with a fabulous distant view direction Kruft and Neuwiederder Becken. A comfortable path leads to the shelter "Am Krufter Ofen", then it goes in serpentines downwards through a powerful beech forest. The path leads to the "Laacher See" and gives you a first glimpse of the monastery of Maria Laach.
Along the river's shores, it is worth taking a detour to the lakeside to admire the so-called moffettes. At once the path turns right and rises steeply. Afterwards, comfortable forest paths and the crossing of the L 116 lead through a mixed forest to the Celtic tree circle. The last section of the route is marked by recurring grandiose views of the Siebengebirge and the Pellenz. Along the edge of the forest, the arena goes back to the Roman tomb. "
