[F] Le site du château de Tours est occupé depuis le premier siècle de notre ère. Aux bâtiment antiques puis médiévaux, révélés par l'archéologie, succède au milieu du XIème siècle une vaste résidence seigneuriale édifiée par les comtes d'Anjou. Au XIIIème siècle, après l'intégration de la Touraine dans le domaine royal, cette résidence est incluse dans un château fortifié construit sous le règne de Philippe le Hardi. A la fin du Moyen Age, le site est délaissé au profit de demeures royales plus confortables en Val de Loire.
[E] The site of the Château de Tours has been occupied since the first century AD. Revealed by archaeological excavations, Roman-era buldings gave way to medieval structures followed in the 11 th century by a vast aristocratic residence built for the Counts of Anjou. In the 13 th century, following the integration of the Touraine region into the royal domain, this residence was included into a fortified stronghold built during the reign of Philip III. At the end of the Middles Ages, the site was abandonned in favour of more comfortable royal palaces in the Loire valley.
