Les éoliennes Bollée ont été mises au point par Ernest-Sylvain Bollée (1814-1891) pour le pompage et l'élévation de l'eau. Le Sarthois a d'ailleurs été le 1er à utiliser le terme « éolienne » en tant que machine et non plus comme un adjectif. La Touraine était là aussi championne du nombre d'installations avec environ 20 % des 500 machines françaises.
En Indre-et-Loire, une petite trentaine est encore debout aujourd'hui dont 6 ont été restaurées.
Installée en 1876, c'est la plus ancienne de Touraine encore debout ; elle était destinée au château de Mazères.
