This statue of Saint Vincent de Paul stands outside the southern side of Saint Vincent Hospital along West 25th St. in Erie, PA.
Saint Vincent de Paul was born in 1581 in France and was ordained a priest in 1600. While on a trip, he was abducted by pirates and sold as a slave for two years. After his enslavement, he dedicated himself to preaching, aiding the poor, and the foundation of the Congregation of the Mission, which also helped in the formation of priests. He died in Paris in 1660, and was canonized in 1737 by Pope Clement XII. His feast day was originally July 19th, but was changed in 1969 to September 27th. He is the patron saint of many causes, including charities and hospitals.
