Marker, located on Confederate Drive in the Spanish Fort Estates section of the city, describes Fort McDermott's (also known as Redoubt No. 2) role in the Battle of Spanish Fort. The fort area was restored in 2015.

From this Confederate Fort 15 heavy artillery guns, repelled elements of 2 Union Army Corps, routed 5 ironclad monitors attacking up the Blakely River and for 13 days helped prevent the capture of Mobile until after General Lee's Surrender at Appomattox.
