ENGLISH:
Water mills have been operating at the river Bega since the middle ages. The oil mill was built in its present form in 1808. Next to the oil mill, a sawmill, a boke mill, a grain mill and a ‘Schrothmühle’ were also built on the site near the renaissance-castle Brake.
Oil was produced in the water mill until 1900. In 1819 20 bushels (about 1000 liters) of turnip seeds were processed to about 130 liters of oil on good days. In 1900 the production became unprofitable and discontinued, but resumed during the First World War due to the food crisis. In 1925 the production was then terminated.
