1909 - 1978
Chief Engineer and executive officer for construction of the New York City Transit Authority from July 10, 1970 to November 9, 1978. An inspirational leader with extraordinary technical competence who was responsible for design and construction during a period of unparalleled expansion and modernization of the World's largest rapid transit system. He dedicated his life to public works, and served as building commissioner and construction coordinator on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and the 1964-65 World's Fair. As a soldier-engineer, he served his country with courage and distinction in Korea and World War II, receiving the Medal of Valor among other decorations for his brave in action.
