In Lake George, along the shore of Lake George, is this memorial to people who lost their lives when the tour boat, the Ethan Allen, capsized.

The monument is located along a walkway along the lake shore and is near Amherst Street, which runs by the old Warren County Courthouse.

The monument is made of granite with bronze features embedded in it. One feature is an anchor and chain, the other flowers.

The text on the monument is as follows:

"We hear from the misty
troubled shore
the voice of those
gone before
drawing the soul to it's
anchorage.
-Bret Harle

This memorial is dedicated
to the twenty men and women
who tragically perished
when the
Ethan Allen tour boat
suddenly capsized
and sank on Lake George
October 2, 2005"

The Ethan Allen was a small boat about 40 ft long and the seating was open to the elements, with a canopy overhead. On the fated cruise, there were 49 passengers on board. On October 2, about 2:55 pm, the boat capsized. Around 20 died from this sudden event. Many were rescued and sent to area hospitals.

The cause had been determined that the boat had too many people on it, and other factors such as a relatively high center of gravity and turning tightly, contributed to the accident. From this accident, federal agencies had looked into better designs and specifications.
