The National Register's Continuation Sheet (see link to narrative) notes that this building is a comparative latecomer to the district, its 1915 construction was some time after most of the district's contributing buildings. Not only was this is the first building on the square to be constructed with a steel frame, its colonial architecture is also a break from the late 19th century architecture prominent on the square at the time. The continuation sheet does not focus on this building like it does some of the others, but it does have a 1930 photograph of it, looking very much like it does today, as the modifications done later in the 1980s were very minor.
