A fully restored Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) Mark III on display at the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial in Bain Park. Access is south from Highway 2 at the west edge of Canadian Forces Base Trenton
The ubiquitous LAV III, originally dubbed the KODIAK by the Canadian Army, is built in London, ON. It is the primary Armoured Personnel Carrier of the Canadian and New Zealand Armies, with 651 and 105 vehicles respectively.
The LAV III carries a 25mm main gun, with 7.62mm secondary machine guns. It also carries 8 grenade launch tubes (not on this example). It carries a crew of three, plus up to 7 passengers.
The LAV III has seen extensive use in Afghanistan by the Canadian Army. 58 were lost in combat operations with another 159 damaged.
