The home of the Princeton Tigers, this is the first US College football stadium I have visited. In the UK, college sport is usually played in front of one man and a dog on a cold, wet playing field with no terraces. This place was like another world! Would love to see game here.
The stadium replaced the previous Palmer Stadium and was designed by the architects Rafael Vinoly. It took 18 months to demolish the old stadium. The new one has stands on 4 sides of which 3 sides have two tiers and cost $45 million to construct.
The grass pitch was replaced in 2006 with an artificial surface called Field Turf. This was funded through a generous $10m donation from a Princeton alumnus and former football player, William C Powers after whom the stadium is now named.
