Gare du Nord train station was built between 1861 and 1866. However, it opened for passenger and freight operations in 1864, two years before construction was finally completed.
The huge station is located at 112 Rue de Maubeuge in central Paris. There are 36 platforms, of which 34 are currently in use.
The station underwent renovation in 1899 and expansion several times between 1930 and 1970.
The station sees about 700,000 passengers a day.
