Cannes is a city located on the French Riviera. It is a commune of France located in the Alpes-Maritimes department, and host city of the annual Cannes Film Festival, Midem, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The city is known for its association with the rich and famous, its luxury hotels and restaurants, and for several conferences. On 3 November 2011 it also played host to the G20 summit of industrialised nations.
The town hall was the object of a first project by the architect Durand in 1872. It is the architect of the city Louis Hourlier who built the building from 1874 to 1876. Internal modifications have intervened in 1888.
The town hall has a homogeneous rectangular plan with an axis of symmetry crossing that serves as a vestibule. The two main north and south facades are organized on both sides of a monumental bay with superposed orders. On the 3rd level, which is an attic-floor, the trumeaux carry representations of women in high relief, two pairs of them placed on the central body, symbolizing the local productions with palms, fruits, bouquets and crowns of flowers . The pediment bears the coat of arms of the city on an anchor. It is decorated with a crown in the form of a crenellated tower, symbolizing the city, which stands out on the rump imitating a dome. The Doric order of the 1st level integrates a mezzanine. The lateral elevations have a decor of lesser interest.
