Located in Heritage Plaza Park is an outdoor wooden sculpture titled the "Big Tree". This sculpture was made from a former pine tree that once stood near this sculpture and in the middle of Highway 28 for over 100 years. There are some granite plaques that make up this sculpture's base and one of them reads:

The Big Tree

For over a hundred years,
the heart of Tahoe City was marked by the
magnificent "Big Tree" in the center of the road.
After its passing in 1994, a section of
the tree was preserved and this
sculpture was commissioned.

We are thankful to all the friends
whose generosity helped
memorialize the Big Tree and
Tahoe City's natural history.

The wood carving sculpture depicts the Big Tree, with forest animals accompanying it -- a bear cub, a bald eagle, and a deer buck.
