In 1836, Marcus Stickney bought the property where this house is currently located. He was born in Ithaca and served as postmaster. Stickney moved to nearby Lewiston and started a mercantile store, then moved to Lockport and opened another store. His son Washington inherited the property in 1846 and the house was built several years later. Washington Stickney was a minister and local abolishonist.
The Stickney House is a gable-and-wing, two and a half story, masonry bearing wall, Italiante house constructed of Gasport limestone. The fine stone masonry workmanship, elaborate decorative detail, and high level of architectural integrity make the Stickney house a prominent local landmark and important example of Lockport's legacy of stone architecture.
