Potash Pete
This monument is placed in recognition of the founders developers and miners of the Potash industry in Saskatchewan. The Challenges of bringing the massive Saskatchewan Potash resource into production were great.
The 85 meter (250 foot quick sand) Blairmore formation was the most challenging problem in shaft sinking, Two of many innovative measures used to successfully bring the massive Saskatchewan potash into production were:
Freezing the shaft area during shaft sinking.
Use of cast iron "tubing" rings to seal off the Blairmore formation.
The men and women potash miners came from all walks of life from farming to fishing and from across Canada. The people of Saskachewan and Canada salute all former and present personnel.
Potash was designated the official mineral of Saskatchewan by the Minister of Energy and Mines in 1996.
