[FR] Arbre sempervirent à port conique élargi, à croissance très lente. C’est le seul conifère sans résine et sans cône. Son bois est dur, compact, utilisé en marqueterie. Beaucoup d’ifs disparurent après la guerre de Cent ans car ils servaient à la fabrication des arcs.
L’if est devenu rare à l’état naturel. Il est utilisé dans les parcs en art topiaire. On en extrait actuellement les taxanes qui
sont des anticancéreux.
[EN] Evergreen tree with widened conical port(bearing), with very slow growth. It is the only conifer without resin and without cone. His(her,its) wood is hard, compact, used in marquetry. Many yews disappeared after the Hundred Years' War because they were of use to the manufacturing of bows(arcs).
The yew became rare in the natural state. He(it) is used in parks in topiary art. We extract at present the taxanes from it which
