The metal headstone of Mrs. Mary Murphy has become corroded over the years, allowing it to rust. We are not sure what kind of metal this tombstone is made of, and didn't want to touch it for fear of damaging it. These kinds of tombstones are rare in Texas -- we have only seen one other like it in Texas: (visit link)

The ornate grave-cover style tombstone reads as follows:

"Mrs. Mary Murphy
wife of
Wm Murphy of AL
Born in Virginia 1788
Died in Texas 1861"

It is covered with relief flowers and palm fronds, with border of incides relief flowers.
