Located several miles West of Baraboo, WI in the small village of North Freedom, the Mid-Continent Railway Museum is an amazing place. They have walk around display grounds, the depot house, and Coach Shed No 1 all with the concept of railway history in mind. The steam locomotive they use for train rides is actually over 100 years old as are most of the cars they display. They have a great restoration area where they bring old cars back to life. They have a great gift shop as well in the depot. The train ride is several miles long and goes from the museum to Quartzite Lake which is an active quarry. The ride is a round trip around 55 minutes. There are special rides during the year that are themed and you can also purchase a dining car experience. The options at this place are vast. The entrance to the museum is actually the museum outdoor grounds themselves.
