In the town mall of Braintree, Massachusetts, alongside memorials to the honored veterans from the town, sits a massive stone cairn. On the outside is engraved the simple "1976-2076 ~ Time Capsule"

This capsule was, at the time of its construction, the only above-ground capsule in the world. The contents are preserved with Argon gas, and a 30th anniversary celebration was held in 2006. Outside the capsule is a piece of flint from Braintree's British namesake - you can read about the stone's travels here.
