The Bamberg Rose Garden was designed in the style of an antique Roman garden. Part of the design are statues of Roman deities, sculpted by Royal sculptor Ferdinand Dietz in 1761.

One of the sculptures depicts Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships.

The dwarf planet Ceres, the largest object in the Asteroid Belt, was named after the goddess. Ceres was discovered in 1801, was originally classified as a planet, later - after the discovery of other objects in the Asteroid belt - it was "demoted" to an asteroid. In 2006, it became on of the first objects in the new category of Dwarf Planets.
