St Marcellin Champagnat founded the worldwide community of Marist Brothers in 1817.
After the founding of the first Marist schools in France in the 19th century, their work has spread all over the world. Thus, in 1888, three years after the arrival of the Marist Brothers in Canada, three of them assume the leadership of Collège Laval.
He was made a Saint (canonised) by Pope John Paul II in April 1999.
In 2004, a theater was added to the college and is named Théâtre Marcellin-Champagnat.
