Right in the heart of the city of Bonn there is the Bonn Minster (German: Bonner Münster). At this point was to find the oldest ancient memorial to the dead north of the Alps. Since the 13th century, when the citizens of Bonn took the Minster-Basilica into their town seal, it is the landmark of the city of Bonn. Although the panorama of the city has changed in the meantime, the cathedral is still dominating the cityscape.
Christian martyrs have been revered in this place for 1350 years. Above their graves, the Bonn Minster, which today is considered a "European Monument", growed through the centuries. Here a development from a small place of worship of the late Roman period to the first large church complex in the Rhineland took place. The present building is mainly due to the lively building activity of the 11th to 13th century. Romanesque and gothic style elements merge into a harmonious building. Inside, the church has a Baroque decor from the past and the present century.
