Holding Out is the creation of J. Seward Johnson, Jr. the American artist who is well known for his trompe l'oeil painted bronze statues. Holding Out is a life size, polychrome, cast bronze depiction of a mature woman. The gray-haired woman is wearing a a white turtle neck sweater, calf length pea green overcoat, white stockings, and black shoes. She is cradling a full bag of groceries in her left arm. A blue bah is held against her body with her right arm and she holds a white Talbots shopping bag in her right hand.
A bronze plaque on the circular base is inscribed:
