The Philip Eckel Memorial honors the Syracuse Fire Chief who died enroute to fighting a fire. It is located in the center of Firefighters Memorial Park on East Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY.

A life size granite statue of Fire Chief Philip Eckel stands on a 20' high tiered granite base. He is wearing his firefighter's uniform and holding a fire horn tucked under his left arm. The front of the base has a relief of the fire department emblem. A Masonic emblem on the west side, and a star is on the east side. Four fire hydrants occupy the corners of the base. The monument is located in the center of a oval fountain and surrounded by a wrought iron fence.
The monument was fabricated by the Carrick Brothers and the firm of
Emslie, McLeod & Company were the contractors. It was dedicated August 22, 1900 and relocated to its current location on May 2, 1979. The memorial was erected to honor Syracuse Fire Chief Philip Eckel who lost his life on June 1, 1886 while on duty. He was thrown from a horse-drawn wagon while on his way to fight a fire.
Below the statue is inscribed: COME ON BOYS the lower base is inscribed PHILIP ECKEL. A plaque on the front of the base is inscribed (in part):
