The Max Ernst Museum of the LVR was opened in Brühl nearby the Castle of Augustusburg in the year 2005. Brühl is the birthplace of the German artist Max Ernst. The museum displays the work of the artist and world citizen Max Ernst (1891-1976), who was a Dadaist and Surrealist. The exhibition opens a unique ensemble of over 70 sculptures across the sculptural work for decades. In addition to pictures from the early days, the museum has a collection that covers nearly the entire graphic work. "Heart" of the exhibition are the 36 "D-paintings", birthday and love gifts from Max Ernst to his wife, the artist Dorothea Tanning.
