Panneau d’information sur le Grand héron que vous apercevez le long des rives ou dans les eaux peu profondes. Bien droit telle une statue ou avançant lentement cet échassier surveille le passage d’un poisson ou d’une grenouille. La patience et la rapidité sont ses atouts le grand héron attrape sans peine sa proie avec son bec pointu.
Le grand héron est un oiseau sociable qui niche en colonie près des zones de pêche. Leur nid d’un mètre de diamètre parent les arbres hauts, les escarpements rocheux et les arbrisseaux. Mesurant plus d’un mètre de haut le grand héron se reconnaît a son long bec jaune et à sa couronne noir et blanche et son cri vigoureux qu’il pousse quand on le surprend.
