This You Are Here map is adjacent to the north side of the parking area at the dam viewing site. If one heads toward the "facilities" they will walk right by the sign.

From the sign:
Welcome to Avista's Noxon Rapids Hydroelectric Development. Noxon Rapids is part of Avista's Clark Fork River Project, which consists of this hydroelectric development and the Cabinet Gorge development located downstream. The Clark Fork River Project is licensed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as Project No. 2058.

The Noxon Rapids Hydroelectric Development was completed by Avista (formerly the Washington Water Power Company) in 1959. The earth fill, gravity type dam is a mile long, 260 feet high and 700 feet wide at its base.

Water flows from behind the dam through pipes (penstocks) into the powerhouse, where it spins turbines and then returns to the Clark Fork River. Five generators connected to the turbines can produce 488 megawatts of electricity, enough to power about 365,000homes. Noxon Rapids has the largest generating capacity of Avista’s eight hydroelectric developments and has the second largest capacity of any hydro plant in Montana.
