Now managed by Historic Scotland, this stone archway lies at the western end of St.Andrews` busy South Street. The sign nearby reads "The West Port is one of the few surviving Scottish city gates. In a building contract drawn up in 1589 the gate was to be a copy of Edinburgh`s Netherbow Port. The West Port was restored in 1843."
