After almost 40 years the otter is back in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen (Nieuwkoop Lakes)! This animal is not only the first live otter in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen for decades, but also the first live in the province of South Holland since then.
The foresters of Nature are very pleased with this observation of the first live otter in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, in the middle of the Groene Hart. The otter is seen as a crown on the conservation work of decades. He stands as a predator at the top of the food chain and thus measure the quality of our nature.
Not one, not two, but at least three otters! DNA research has shown that lives both a male and a female otter in the Nieuwkoopse Plassen. And we know that there are young born since April 2015! There have now three otters appeared before the camera! This is probably the female with two cubs! Now we must ensure that these otters have a secure future in the Groene Hart.
This bench, just on the North side of the Nieuwkoopse Plassen, shows an image of an Otter and the lakes. This clearly is an ode to the otter. However, there is no information available about its origin, the artist or when it was placed.
