150-acre Wintersmith Park lies south-southeast of Ada. The park is basically rectangular and was created in 1907 by the damming of Lake Creek. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began additional work on the lake area, creating paths, bridges and culverts. This work was continued in the late 1930s by the Works Progress Administration (WPA)with the building is additional bridges, buildings and an amphitheater.. The Historic District contains 24 contributing resources, including two buildings and 19 structures.
The park is bounded on the north and east by Wintersmith Drive, and on the west by Scenic Drive. The park is actively used today, and provides availability to fishing, picnicking and hiking, and has a large playground area and swimming pool.
This is a beautiful area, with rolling hills and areas of heavy foliage. The original Dam divides the park, into a North and South portion. Tree-lined walking trails meander around the lake, with glimpses of various pieces of WPA construction. This is a beautiful area to visit.
