In Boston's Downtown Crossing district is the Millenium Tower, recently supplanting the Federal Reserve Building as the tallest building in Boston.

The building is located at the corner of Washington Street and Franklin Street.

The building is a steel and glass tower design that incorporates a portion of the old "Filene's" building, now known as the Burnham Building after the architect who designed that building. The main entrance is off Franklin Street, which is open to a brick plaza that is mostly for foot traffic (only certain kinds of traffic such as delivery trucks can go on Washington Street). The sides have three 'pleates.' The top is beveled, and there is a lower top at one end. Otherwise, the sides are composed off smooth glass panes that reflect the sky. This is to make the tower appear less overbearing.

Some specs:
Address: 1 Franklin Street
Stories: 60
Height: 685 ft
Purpose: Condominiums above the 5th floor. Commercial/retail in the first five floors.

All in all, the building is like the tallest tower, the formerly named Hancock Tower - now 200 Clarendon Street. This building reflects the sky and partially fades in the sky and only reflecting its surroundings, not really contributing its own unique lines to the skyline. The one thing different is the inclusion of the old Filense building at the base - too bad more of it could have been saved.

My WM for the Filenes Tower in the Building Buildings Tower documents some of the building of this tower. This has been a long time as earlier attempts to develop the site fell through. Here is the link:
