Daniel's Field, constructed in 1939 by the WPA, is still in use today as a football field and track. It is located on the east side of Highway 77, north of the town of Perry.
The complex consists of two large, rusticated native stone grandstands, 280 feet long, flanking a football field and track. The west grandstand is particularly elaborate with a false arcade beneath a stepped cornice on the rear wall of the stadium. A six-sided stone ticket booth with narrow window openings is still used today. Dressing rooms and restrooms are constructed within the stadium walls.
To the south of the football stadium is the grandstand for the original baseball field. The stone portions are still intact, including a 6-sided ticket booth, stairway and the ten foot high stone wall which is circular and measures 100 feet. This former baseball stadium is linked to the west football grandstand by a long ten foot high stone wall. The wood seats of the baseball stands have been removed and this area has fallen into ruin and overgrowth.
The football stadium, however, is still in full use by the town and in excellent condition. The stadiums were constructed at a cost of $100,000 and provided 74,000 ma-hours of labor to a struggling community during the Depression Era. This recreational facility produced economic health to the town, as well as morale during a difficult time.
